The Skinification of Haircare – Or maybe the trend that is here to stay?

blog 2 1

This hot trend brings to the fore active ingredients and products inspired by facial care, in our daily hair care routine. Going through a decade of rich information and familiarity with active ingredients known to all of us, we observe our love and need for the use of effective products with actions that give visible and immediate results. In conjunction with the pandemic period, trends are being redefined and categories of the beauty industry are emerging with products such as masks & hair treatments where they are gaining high market shares.

It is certain that we are not surprised by the popularity of this category, since a combination of innovative and eco-friendly hair products reaches both store shelves and the pages of small and large e-shops. The variety is wide, with products such as pre-shampoo, shampoo and conditioner in bar form, hair serum and much more, so not only the face but also our hair has rightfully acquired a rich care routine.

But what do the experts say? Many dermatologists recommend choosing the right hair and scalp care products with ingredients ideal for our needs. Some of the main ingredients in hair products, while at the same time found in many facial care products, are salicylic acid, ideal for reducing dandruff, and niacinamide, which works by balancing oiliness. Hyaluronic acid could not be missing as it is an active ingredient that enhances hydration and prevents moisture loss.

So, since the ingredients are many and their actions are multiple, if hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and other ingredients found in facial skin care products work effectively on the scalp, why additional ingredients with proven benefits such as retinol and vitamin C are not included? The answer to the question is again given by the experts, who argue that regardless of our knowledge about the benefits of ingredients on the skin of our face, these active ingredients do not always work on the scalp. And this happens because we encounter great differences in the epidermis of the scalp from that of the epidermis of the face.

Starting from the fact that the skin of the scalp is thicker with an average of 100,000 follicles with a variety of shapes, we understand that the differences with the skin of our face are many. Our scalp, being “protected” by hair, shows a weaker protective function, combined with the “dark” and humid environment, it is often more prone to bacteria, dandruff, and irritations. A fact that justifies the fact that ingredients such as retinol or vitamin C, despite the fact that they are considered hero active ingredients for facial skin care, could have a more negative and less positive effect on the scalp and hair.

In conclusion, the care of the skin of our scalp and hair is as much about the right combination of active ingredients as the balanced selection of products. Since we don’t need a lot of products, the real need has to do with choosing the right products according to our needs.

Two products that follow this trend are the Vegan product Clean Butter Shampoo Bar for clean and shiny hair, a shampoo bar ideal for sensitive skin and the Clean Butter Hair Pack Bar, a conditioner in the form of a bar that will pamper gently and will leave our hair without knots!
